Associate PG Students

  1. Associate postgraduate (Asso PG) students are part-time students who enroll in individual self-financing credit-bearing postgraduate courses instead of any programs leading to formal academic awards.

 Admission

  1. Applicants interested in applying for Asso PG are advised to first consult the relevant School for a list of available courses and related course fees before applying via the PG OAS. The application deadline is 31 July for Fall Term, and 31 December for Spring Term. Information for applicants is available at https://fytgs.hkust.edu.hk/assopgs.

  2. The admission requirements for Asso PG students are the same as those for regular taught PG students. PAS approval must be sought for admission of Asso PG student(s) who do not meet the minimum admission requirements.

  3. More details on Admission of Associate PG Students to Self-financing PG Courses are available here.

 Registration and Administration

  1. Asso PG students are attached to a home School, which is the course-offering School, that tracks and monitors their progress. Where courses from more than one School are involved, the School of the first-choice course would be assigned as the home School.

  2. Asso PG students normally take and/or audit no more than six credits, or, with exceptional approval of the program office and the Dean of the School concerned, at most eight credits in any one term. Once enrolled, students are not allowed to add or drop courses, or change their enrollment status.

  3. To avoid having any adverse impact on the quality of class delivery, Schools/AIS are required to devise, prior to admission, a policy on the number of Asso PG who may be enrolled in any one class, and to monitor class enrolment accordingly. Schools/AIS should note that priority of class enrolment is always given to regular students of the University.

  4. Tuition fees for Asso PG students are charged on a per-credit basis. The amount is determined by the offering department and may include a premium which should not be more than double the normal per-credit fee for the program.

  5. Asso PG students are bound by the same regulations governing postgraduate studies. They may access sports facilities and other campus amenities and library services on paying a fee.  However, they are not entitled to campus accommodation, studentship awards, grant or scholarship awards, student medical services, student counselling service, or other subsidized services enjoyed by regular students.

  6. After completing the course(s), Asso PG students will receive an academic transcript showing the courses enrolled and grades obtained.
