Acceptance of Advantages
- Staff members should note that any gifts offered to them in their official capacity are regarded as gifts to the University.
- Under the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance (Cap 201 of the Laws of Hong Kong), any public servant (which includes any officer or employee of a “public body”, the definition of which covers the University) who, amongst others, solicits or accepts any advantage as an inducement to or reward for performing duties, or for assisting, favouring, hindering or delaying any person in any transaction with a public body, shall be guilty of an offence.
- In the context of student admission, unless permission is granted by the University in accordance with the University’s Guidelines on Acceptance of Advantages, staff and personnel involved are prohibited from soliciting or accepting advantage of any kind from any person who might have an interest in the admission or non-admission of his own or any other person.
- Whenever in doubt, staff members are urged to consult the Ordinance or contact the respective team in the Human Resources Office with responsibilities for their Department/Office/Center.
- As advised by the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) of Hong Kong, applicants and members of the University should visit their "Understanding Integrity in Seconds" webpage to instantly understand the integrity culture of Hong Kong and the application of anti-corruption laws in school admission and other aspects of daily life.
